Responsible toCamp Director
Position Purpose
Responsible for overseeing the health and care of campers and staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Practical Health and Care
- Responsible for meeting individual health and care needs for all campers and staff.
- Follow health and care camp policies and procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures.
- Oversee any first aid procedures and supply usage by other certified first aiders.
Resources
- Be responsible for the correct maintenance, organization, and utilization of resources in order to meet the health and care needs of campers and
- Organize health care room.
- Inventory and order all necessary supplies and equipment to meet the health and care needs of campers and staff.
- Be responsible for the preparation and distribution of appropriately stocked first aid kits throughout the camp to designated areas such as kitchen, vehicles waterfront, other activity areas and cabins.
Administration
- Be responsible for maintaining accurate and detailed medical records in line with camp policies and also American Camp Association standards.
- Be responsible for ensuring the health records for all campers and staff are current and are on file.
- Be responsible for the preparation of a daily recorded log for all treatments and medications administered.
- Be responsible for the preparation and completion of accident/incident and insurance forms.
Staff Training
- Be responsible for training all staff members on medical services. Topics to be discussed may include emergency procedures; health room hours; specific needs of identified campers; contacting parent procedures; accompanying a camper procedures; accident prevention; risk management and first aid administration within the
- Communicate effectively to ensure all staff are aware of their personal responsibilities regarding the health, care and first aid of campers and colleagues.
Health Screening
- Be responsible for arrival and departure health screening of staff and campers.
- Review campers and staff health history paperwork, identifying evidence of communicable disease or illness.
- Identify medicines required by staff and campers and store securely in health room.
Supervision of Facilities
- Be responsible for daily observation of sanitary conditions throughout the camp, including kitchen practices and food service and aspects of housekeeping.
- Report any concerns, health problems or symptoms of illness to your camp Director.
Role Model
- Adhere to and ensure others adhere to all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Set good examples all of the time to staff and campers in regard to team work, using initiative, being pro active and going the extra mile!
Other Duties
- Manage in collaboration with camp Director the sites risk management program, to include the coordination of a resource file for health in the camp community.
- Be informed regarding outside health resources such as local hospital, Drs etc and evaluate site medical resources, making recommendations where necessary.
- Be responsible for contacting campers parents following injury requiring X ray, serious illness and emergency treatment or accident.
Qualifications and skill requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) with licence as required by state law. CPR
- Current first aid certification and experience in first aid and emergency management.
- Drivers licence.
- Experience in both adult and children’s injury/illness care. Community health
Physical Aspects of the Job
- Be able to lift/assist campers and staff.
- Be able to read and follow instructions on medical labels, health forms, physicians orders and parent information.
- Be able to use the phone and verbally communicate effectively with parents, staff and campers regarding health issues.
- Be physically able to get to remote areas of the camp grounds across potential hazards and uneven ground.
- Be able to maintain written documents.
- Be able to observe sanitation and safety conditions of the camp, being prepared to make recommendations for maximising the health and safety of campers and staff.
- Demonstrate endurance in order to effectively deal with emergency Be able to drive off camp to health or primary care locations.
