Essential Job Functions:
Activities
- Plan for, instruct and supervise creative, safe and fun cycling programs.
- Draw up schedules that meet camp requirements and are progressive for campers of all ages and abilities.
- Evaluate individual campers and assistant staff in their abilities to ensure each program is delivered effectively and safely.
Safety
- Be informed and implement with campers and assistant staff, all camp safety procedures. Report to your Head Counselor with any concerns.
- Assist in the implementation of cycling training to assistant staff, ensuring that you communicate their responsibilities and your expectations. This should include road safety and equipment safety checks.
- Be knowledgeable about the available bicycling trails.
- Teach and assist camp activities with passion and enthusiasm. Be an active leader and a good role model. Do the best you can every time!
Facility and Equipment Management
- Assist in the care and maintenance of all bicycles and related equipment, conducting daily checks for safety, cleanliness and good repair.
- Teach and monitor the appropriate use of all equipment and facilities by both assistant staff and campers.
Role Model
- Adhere to and ensure others adhere to all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Set good examples all of the time to staff and campers in regard to teamwork, using initiative, being proactive and going the extra mile!
Other Duties
- Assist in planning and participate in other camp activities as assigned such as evening activities, special events, and other camp functions.

Qualifications and skill requirements
- Documented training and experience in bicycling.
- Current First Aid Certificate/CPR.
- Experience in teaching bicycling to children.
- Experience in setting up bicycling equipment and management related activities.
- Demonstrate a proactive and positive approach to work all the time.
Physical Aspects of the Job
- Be able to work within a team of campers and staff and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff where appropriate.
- Ability to observe staff and camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, bending, walking long distances, hiking, and stretching.
- Necessary eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities.
- The normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs.
- Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
